'MACHINA'
METAMORPHOSIS TITIAN 2012

Artist: Conrad Shawcross

Client: Royal Opera House, Covent Garden.

An ambitious collaboration between the National Gallery and the Royal Opera House to comission contemporary artists, musicians and coreographers to create three specific pieces in response to Titian's paintings of Diana and Acteon.

We collaborated with the artist and Tom Siddal of Physical Pixels to design a tripod to support the dynamic loads imposed by a 1.25 tonne industrial robot used to represent Diana in the first act of the ballet. A stiff loadspreading base was developed to counter large overturning moments and protect the sprung ballet floor from damage.
