Artist: Roger Hiorns
This site specific work by Roger Hiorns was created within a block of flats due for demolition in Elephant and Castle. It involved building a tank in-situ and filling it with copper sulphate solution in order to encrust the walls of an entire flat with blue crystals.
The piece was hugely succesfull and when the time came to demolish the building an attempt was made to remove the entire work. We worked with a team to develop the strategy for removal. This included demolition of the end wall and the design of a skid onto which the piece was jacked before being craned onto a lorry in one piece. It was successfully transported to the Yorkshire Sculpture Park.
