This was our first project using cross-laminated timber and involves the extension of a flint walled tithe barn in Suffolk. The new and old parts have identical envelopes but are staggered in plan and radically different in construction technique and appearance.

Cross laminated timber panels (in this case fabricated by Binderholz) allow factory tolerances and rapid erection times to be achieved on site. Further advantages include little or no shrinkage, no cold bridging, good air tightness, good fire performance and high mass providing a solid feeling building.
