Following a fire in the 1980's this Victorian warehouse had been converted to offices. The brickwork perimeter walls had been retained and a steel frame inserted to brace the walls and carry loads to ground.
It was necessary for us to completely understand the existing condition before we could begin to develop structural solutions to the Architect's proposals and to this end we searched council building records to investigate the history of the building, and carried out opening up works and a back analysis of the existing structure. Alterations included the removal of roof ties, floor bays and strategic columns as well as new elements such as the central stair.
