This sculpture is based on the division of the cube into 6 tetrahedra. Two types are required, one the mirror image of the other and in all 112 tetrahedra were used.
We have worked on several iterations of the sculpture with the Artist; at different scales, using different materials and employing different fabrication techniques. This version, located on a private estate in Ancona Italy, is the most ambitious to date and incorporates an extended separation in the connections between tetrahedra that pushes the components to their material limits. High strength Duplex stainless steel was used to reinforce the corners of the tetrahedra which are fabricated from folded and riveted stainless steel. Extensive computer analysis of the structure was undertaken and prototype connections were load tested to ratify the design.
