Our design for a new pylon for the UK was shortlisted from over 250 international entries and was singled out with two others for further development.
The proposal employs a modular steel lattice structure that becomes progressively lighter towards the top. An parametric design process allows each pylon to be precisely tailored to the particular demands of each location and wire loads. Cross arms are in insulative fibre reinforced polymer which avoids the need for the hangers associated with conventional pylons and reduces the overall height.
The design is 10% lighter than the current L12 suspension tower.
