2012 Tower Wharf Cafe
This new restaurant was built on the UNESCO world heritage site of the Tower of London. Situated on the historic Tower Wharf the building affords spectacular views of the River Thames and Tower Bridge to the South and of the moat and the White Tower to the North.

The constraints of significant archaeological fabric across the site dictated an edge thickened raft foundation cantilevered along one side to avoid loading the fragile moat wall.

Sophisticated foundation modelling was required to ensure bearing pressures remained within limits and to predict likely settlements on the variable formation. The frame itself includes a concealed truss between upper and lower parts to create a column free transition and an expressed reciprocal frame in the upper roof.
