2022 Homerton College
Materials and craftsmanship feature throughout this project. Timber roofs of differing forms span the public spaces, whilst a board marked visual concrete plinth provides continuity throughout. Perhaps most striking is the green faience surface of the dining hall which was the product of careful structural detailing and parametric modelling.
The generously proportioned dining hall provided a rare opportunity to explore innovative structural options, and its main feature internally is a series of sweet chestnut glulam butterfly trusses supporting the iconic valley roof. .

"The timber is held together with interlocking joints and wooden pegs without any steel bolts or plates.........an example of the sort of unasked for thoughtfulness in which the building abounds"
Rowan Moore, The Observer.
